• Formation of 'NGO coordination committee" for undertaking relief and rehabilitation work in Rajasthan.
• Christian Aid is working through MLPC (Mines Labour Protection Campaign)
based in Jodhpur and SURE based in Barmer.
The following organizations are part of the 7 NGO joint coordination
committee

• The joint action committee has set up six temporary shelters and three
mobile units near Baitu.
• On 27 and 28th food was served to 1700 members
covering various villages between Haryali and Dunga. They are planning
to cover about 2500 to 3000 people per day.
• An information center set up in Baitu with an aim to provide
information to the people as well as to various organizations that are
coming in to provide relief.
The urgent needs are:
1. Water
2. Fuel
3. Temporary shelter
4. food for the children (Milk etc)
5. Trauma Counseling to the victims

Action Aid & LOK ADHIKAAR NETWORK done so far:
LAN is a network of 23-partner organization. The work has started on the 23rd itself. The staff close to the areas of work had started working in the affected areas immediately in mobilizing food, distributing Food, supply food in camps, running one camp at Barmer, clothes& water and plastic canes of 10 and 15 liters to store water in Maluaa ..
Coordinated immediate relief work has started in the most interior villages:
• Cooked Food supplies
• Water Supplies
Special needs identified till now are
• Safe drinking water
• Baby food (Dry Milk Biscuites etc..)
• Dry Ration(Floor,Pulses, Spices ,Refind oil)
• Essential Medicines
Present Plan : Rapid Assessment for the 7 days :
The entire teams of 40 people have got together to carry out a Rapid Assessment of the situation. The questionnaire was developed and now people have moved to the affected villages for a one day field testing. The initial survey findings are on basic situations in of the village and individual households.
• Food Security (especially food for infants & children, food for lactating & pregnant women)
• Drinking Water
• Health Status and Morbidity Patterns
• Status of PHCs, Sub-Centres and ANM Centres
• Sanitary & Sanitation Needs (esp. Women)
• Fodder for Surviving Livestock
• Communication Needs (e.g. How do people contact family members & relatives outside? How do migrant family members get to know about the status of their families – e.g. Toll Free Query Number? Need for overall information centre)
• Clothing (esp. Warm Clothes)
• Pest Control & Mosquito Nets
• Temporary Shelter
• Restarting School & Anganwadi Services

SITREPS were coming from the team on the ground since 20th August.
The team is in touch with Action Aid, CARE, UNICEF and the District
administration.
GBP 3000 has been sanctioned for immediate use.
Assessment team has set out for Barmer and Jaisalmer this morning.
A state level coordination meeting is planned on Friday afternoon to share
information and plans with INGOs and other stake holders at our Jaipur

CRS (Mr. Suvabrata Dey) as on 29th August 06 (17.30 hrs)
CRS and its partners in Rajasthan are assessing the situation on day to day basis. CRS team is in field helping partners in assessment and developing coordination with Govt. and other agencies. As of today CRS is in process of approvals for 49 MTs commodities among four CPs as dry ration distribution and cooked food through community kitchens under CP Ajmer. At State level CRS is in touch with different agencies and exploring possibilities of collaboration where ever is possible
IRC ( Mr. Chandrasekhar) as on 29th August 06 (17.30 hrs)
The IRCS district branches have started relief at local level and the state branch is mobilizing relief materials to the affected states and coordinating the relief operation. The state branch has requested the RCS NHQ to provide relief materials like blankets, clothes, tents, milk powder, sugar, tea, edible oils etc.
Following the request of the state branch, the IRCS national headquarters is sending some relief materials i.e. saree, dhoti, kitchen sets, plastic buckets, towels, cotton blankets, bed sheets, medicines etc to the state branch for distribution among flood affected population in the state. The NHQ is constantly monitoring the situation.
The Federation is in constant touch with the national headquarters and collecting and updating and disseminating the information.

• Have started receiving Sitreps and information on Flood situation in Rajasthan from ECHO Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA) partners since 28.08.06 evening.

District Magistrate (Mr. Subir Kumar) as on 28th August 06 (11.30 hrs)
• Emergency and rescue work has been carried out.
• Food and water packets are being distributed.
• Tarpaulin sheets and intermediary shelter s is the immediate need.
• About 25,000 houses have been damaged due to floods.
Care India (Mr. Balaji Singh)as on 28th August 06 (17.30 hrs)
• Care State representative has met today the state administration to seek further flood related information.
• Care is supporting with its Integrated Nutrition and Health Care (INHP ) programme in 9 flood affected districts of Rajasthan.
• Barmer district is not currently being supported by Care India.
• Care India is closely monitoring the situation.
• Water logging and stagnation is a concern in the villages of Barmer district.
• High level of prevalence of malaria is expected in the Barmer district.
• Barmer district has very low population density.
• It’s a sensitive region (border with Pakistan) and also well connected with roads.
Seeds India (Mr. Manu Gupta) as on 28th August 06 (17.30 hrs)
• Seeds India will conduct an assessment on the 30th and 31st of August in and around Barmer region.
• Seeds will focus on Shelter, water and sanitation needs of the affected populations.
UNICEF Rajasthan (Dr. Satish Kumar) as on 28th August 06 (17.30 hrs)
• About 100 villages are affected by the floods in the Barmer district.
• Unicef has sent assessment teams in the district.
• Have started mobilizing immunization stocks and water storage tanks.
• Intends to mobiles resources from other districts of Rajasthan programme.
